Prince Edward Island Ground Search and Rescue is a volunteer-based, non-profit, charitable organization based in Charlottetown and serving the entire province of Prince Edward Island.

On call 24 hours per day, 365 days per year, PEI GSAR members respond at all hours of the day and night and in all seasons.

The mandate of PEI GSAR is to search for and rescue individuals who are lost or injured. To fulfill this mandate, PEI GSAR volunteers train multiple times a year to practice and maintain skills in navigation, survival, first aid, search techniques, search management, clue identification, tracking and more.

PEI GSAR has PLS Specialists who are trained in the use of special tracking equipment, and who also work with the families regularly to inspect bracelets and change the batteries.

AdventureSmart

The AdventureSmart Program encourages all Islanders to get outdoors and have fun, but emphasizes the importance of being prepared before you set out. Time spent gaining this extra knowledge and experience can help reduce the risks of something going awry. PEI GSAR offers a number of programs for different age groups, including:

  • Hug a Tree and Survive (small children)

  • Survive Outside (teenagers and adults)

  • Snow Safety and Education (teenagers and adults)

All programs focus on three main topics - trip planning, the 10 essentials, and proper outdoor training.
